When deciding where to open his new financial services firm in Newton, Massachusetts, the owner of Bay Boston prioritized a central location over good bones, leasing a dimly illuminated basement office in a historic building. In order to maximize access to sunshine and create the overall appearance of lightness, Kripper Studio removed existing partitions, exposed overhead mechanical systems, and refinished the 2360-square-foot interior in polished concrete flooring and a palette of shades of white. An accent wall in the lobby is fabricated from cherry; this aesthetic counterpoint allows for the client’s branding to be visible from the street. It also integrates a digital display screen, coffee station, and storage.
