Located in the heart of Downtown Boston, 10 Winthrop Square is an iconic commercial building erected in 1875. Kripper Studio provided the building owner with multiple concepts for modernizing and expanding the historic 6-story structure, and helping to prepare it to compete with super-tall high rise construction in the downtown market. The final proposal called for introducing ground-floor retail component that terminates in a glazed, prow-like extension, as well as constructing two new stories on the roof. Both interventions interpret 19th-century skyscraper vocabulary in a contemporary fashion.
