KRIPPER STUDIO REIMAGINES BOSTON’S CITY HALL

In honor of Boston City Hall’s 50th anniversary, the City of Boston selected Kripper Architecture Studio’s project to be printed and framed for display in the Mayor’s Gallery on the 5th floor of Boston City Hall for the month of February.

Our aim is to transform Boston City Hall into a welcoming icon for the city of Boston showcasing sustainability and accessibility. An essential part of the proposal is transforming the existing bare plaza into a beautiful urban park: City Hall Park. Planted with local species it becomes the natural setting for the new City Hall. The brutalist-style building is cladded with a lush vertical garden highlighting distinctive architectural elements but at the same time softening its overall imposing appearance.

In addition, we propose an exterior elevator leading to a public green roof and vegetable garden with a new public venue to enjoy remarkable waterfront views. This venue is envisioned as a glazed volume sitting on the roof garden. This space can act as a restaurant and a botanical garden. At night, the glowing volume becomes a beacon of the newly reimagined City Hall.
