55 Court Street is a 50,000-square-foot, Brutalist-style commercial building encompassing street-front retail and four stories of offices, located within eyeshot of Boston City Hall. In 2018, the client tapped Kripper Studio to refresh the building’s office lobby to attract a new generation of fin-tech tenants.
Kripper Studio transformed the 400-square-foot entry into an illuminated white space with prismatic walls and bronze accents, whose diamond-like flooring aligns to its circulation patterns. The project reinvents an understanding of Brutalist architecture in a way that also resonates with the sleek, optimistic branding of Boston’s startup culture. To accomplish these goals with a minimal budget, Kripper Studio reconfigured a dropped ceiling and mechanical systems that had been installed in a previous renovation.
