Contemporary Farmhouse in Newton, MA
Type: Commission, New Construction, Residential.
Team: Michael Grogan, Amir Kripper, Camila Ferreiro
Architect: Amir Kripper, AIA
The project started as a speculative residential development on a tight lot in Newton, MA. Therefore, the “style” was predetermined to be colonial, typical for commercial projects in New England. As the design process evolved, the clients decided to swap their own house for this new house. “They saw an opportunity to design the modern house they always wanted”, explains project’s architect Amir Kripper.
The design borrows inspiration from traditional farmhouses but the geometry is streamlined with cleaner lines. The exterior materials are white board and batten siding with dark wood paneling as accent elements for the entry points. The main level has an open floor plan connecting the formal dining room, parlor, kitchen and family room that overlooks the exterior deck and the back yard beyond. The basement is fully finished with a wine cellar, home gym and a home office. The upper floor has 3 large bedrooms en-suite with custom-made vanities for each bathroom.
